The Yaesu FT-817 Transceiver
![]()
The FT817ND is a gem of a radio. It's small, lightweight and covers most of the HF-UHF bands. The manuals and schematics are listed below. I have been asked in the past what the differences are between the 817 and 817ND. As best I can tell, the main difference is in the PA section where chunkier (more forgiving of mismatch) FETS are used in the ND version. The biggest deficiency with the FT-817 is its lousy battery life, easily remedied by building yourself a better battery (see below).
These files are large and may take some time to load. You may need to use another viewer program to print them because of their size. Even a good broadband connection will take some time to download them. Please have patience.
The Yaesu Service menu is very large (110 pages) and extensive and covers the FT-817 model (not the ND in great detail , although apart from the PA stage, they are very similar). When it comes to software, I only need three items... Ham Radio Deluxe, FT817 Commander and the excellent and relatively inexpensive MIXW.
