This pair of foxes, one is hiding in the hedge and you can just see the eyes glittering, are fairly regular visitors to my urban garden. This series of photos were taken over a 30 second period using flash photography. Fortunately, and for reasons unknown to me, the foxes don't seem to bother at all about electronic flashguns going off in their faces. Note the prominent fox trail across the grass. We believe one of these foxes lives in a large conifer tree in the next garden, rather than in a more normal den. Just don't tell the neighbour. She'd have a canary! Red fox are normally crepuscular animals, foraging for food at dawn and dusk, but I've even seen them wandering the streets in daylight during the summer months. If you live in a town, the chances are that you are not very far from a red fox. The best time to see them is normally at dawn and dusk. Take a chair outside and just sit very still for ten minutes.
